OUR STORY
Karen Lightwood and Neil Harrington are the founders of Discobility, a charity dedicated to creating inclusive nightlife experiences for SEND adults.
With Karen’s lifelong career supporting the SEND community and Neil’s background in event management, music production, and DJ’ing, they’ve spent more than 15 years hosting vibrant music events together.
After moving to Folkestone in 2021, they recognised a major gap in local social opportunities for SEND adults. That insight sparked the creation of Discobility, whose first event in October 2022 was a huge success and confirmed the community’s need for a safe, joyful, and inclusive night out.
To ensure long‑term sustainability and to keep offering free carer tickets, they pursued official charity status, which was granted at the end of 2025. Discobility continues to grow with one clear mission: to make nightlife accessible, welcoming, and full of joy for every adult with SEND.
OUR MISSION
To create vibrant, safe, and joy‑filled spaces where SEND adults can dance freely, express who they are, and build real social connections.
We champion individuality, celebrate creativity, and remove barriers so every person can feel seen, supported, and part of a community that truly welcomes them.
At Discobility, we believe that music, movement, and togetherness have the power to transform confidence and wellbeing. Our mission is to make those moments accessible to everyone — not as a luxury, but as a right.
Our roadmap starts with the self- Sufficiency of our Folkestone hub, then rolling out to new locations around the country.
